When I was a young man, beyond my favorite haunt of Coney Island, my photographer’s eye found delight in New York City street life in all it’s variety – the glittering lights of Times Square, the streets of Harlem, smoke-filled coffee shops, subways, city stoops, and shop windows.  Everywhere I turned were people living their own personal story, going about their business, and communicating the universal themes that bind us together as a human family – love, loss, curiosity, humor and compassion.  My life has taken me now to many parts of the world – from Korea as a draftee to Greece, Zambia, Ireland, and beyond.  This portfolio of my classic documentary work, much of it from the 40’s and 50’s, is a small sampling of my photographic journey bearing witness to the deep beauty and mystery of our human life.
