This is undoubtedly Harold’s most iconic and best known image. In recalling the day he shot this photo he said, “Back in those days people with cameras were unusual. These kids shouted ‘Hey mister, take our picture!’ And it’s just perfect – the girl with the portable radio and everyone just draped on each other. I couldn’t have asked for a better set-up!

Later when this photo ran in LIFE Magazine in 1989, I got a call from her nephew saying ‘She’s just as beautiful now as she was then!’ He put her in touch with me and we had a nice chat. She was living in Chicago. When I took this photo she was 17 and I was 18. Just two kids who loved Coney Island.”
